WHAT IS GRIT?
GRIT is a combination of passion and perseverance
Why the passion and perseverance are the secret to success-GRIT.
These days, especially, we are surrounded with ways we can achieve instant gratification, whether it is eating our favorite foods, which are often bad for us. To smoking and getting a “NICOTINE HIT” many times a day to drinking alcohol and getting an instant “BUZZ” sensation. Never mind the grip that social media has on many.
DO YOU WANT A LIFE DICTATED BY ALCOHOL?
If you’re anything like me, you don’t.
All these are created as habits that require effort to break before we can free ourselves from their grip.
In most cases to do so requires some degree of GRIT
“The highly successful had a kind of ferocious determination that played out in 2 ways.
1st – These people were unusually resilient and hard working.
2nd – They knew in a very very deep way what it was they wanted. They had found their WHY.
They not only had determination, they had direction.
It was a combination of passion and perseverance that made high achievers special.
in a word they had GRIT”
How gritty a cadet is, is a great predictor of whether he /she will pass the induction for West Point.
I think it is also a great predictor of whether you can beat an addiction like alcohol.
I failed to stop my drinking so many times.
I felt like Edison who famously said he had found 10,000 ways NOT to make a lightbulb.
It did have a happy ending for Edison.
I guess he had his own share of GRIT.
I studied this book and decided that this what I lacked, to get this crap, alcohol outta my life.
The good news is that you are not trying to master “The BEAST”, (the name for the West Point training program.)
(From 14,000 applicants only 1200 were inducted for Beast Barracks)
You are adding an upgrade to your life (and those around you)
The other good news is that you can improve your GRITTYNESS.
If you have the 2 important ingredients.
1. Namely determination and, direction. (a clear sense of your why)
(Please refer to the blog Why Create Your Why)
Some people are great when things are going well, but they fall apart when things aren’t.
Those that drop out /fall off the wagon rarely do so through lack of ability.
2. What matters most is a “never give up attitude” or GRIT.
This is really important.
COMING SOON… WHY NOT TAKE the GRIT SCALE and see if you’ve got what it takes?
