What to Tell Family & Friends

What to Tell Family & Friends

Maybe this doesn’t bother you, after all why should it?

It only bothered me because drinking is the only bad habit that when you stop people will question you-WHY!

WHY HAVE YOU STOPPED DRINKING?

They assume you had a problem with drink!

THEY feel uncomfortable when you don’t drink!

If you stop smoking (& I have) you get praise heaped on you.

If you lose weight (yes, I Have) people pat you on the back and say how great you are looking and things like that.

THEY DON’T LIKE THAT YOU’VE STOPPED DRINKING

Like you start judging them?

Not true.

You are minding your own business.

Stop drinking and somehow, you’ve broken a rule that they have to question.

YOU LOSE YOUR DRINKING BUDDIES

You find that your drinking buddies don’t include you anymore, their loss.

You find out who your real friends are.

It can be upsetting, but your drinking buddies (male or female) weren’t real friends at all.

just co-conspirators in the alcohol trap.

HOW TO HALT THE QUESTIONING

My advice is saying things like

“I’m driving”

“I’m giving booze a break.”

And the best one was.

“My doctor suggested that giving booze a break may lower my blood pressure,

and it has, by 20 points”!! (It did actually)

That stopped the questions, and it has ever since!!

and I could then  get on with enjoying ordering my non-alcoholic drink in peace.

I never got questioned again.
