Fair question, but look at it this way.
If you were to accept that 99% of your problems are between your ears then affirmations play an important part in changing habits.
Having a first drink at wine o clock or during “Happy Hour” is the first habit to change.
It’s a mission to stop damaging negative self-talk.
Allen Carr who wrote the brilliant book
“The Easy Way to Control Alcohol” refers to this as the big monster, and the little monster.
The little monster is the evil goblin perched on your shoulders demanding endless supplies of alcohol.
You need to be aware that the little monster exists and that it will soon die.
The big monster is in your brain.
That is where the brainwashing is.
Persuading you that its ok to have a drink.
Mr Carr goes on to say
“You know you didn’t need to drink alcohol before you became hooked: the whole key is to prove to your self as quickly as possible that you can enjoy life and cope with it without alcohol.”
That’s where affirmations come in, to fight the BIG monster.
Call it what you will.
It’s self-talk that causes people to go back to drinking.
