The 7 Steps to Freedom from Alcohol – Consternation
The First Step
Is often said to be the hardest.
It also said.
“The first step toward change is awareness.
The second step is acceptance.”
Nathaniel Branden
And the one we all know.
” A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step”
Do You Have Awareness?
Most drinkers don’t even get this far and remain drinkers all their lives.
Without awareness you will never quit alcohol because you are not even aware that you might have a problem.
Let Me Tell You a Story
May I digress to tell a little true story to illustrate the point.
During the covid period an acquaintance (who shall remain nameless) went shopping, very early one morning and bought vast quantities of things from a supermarket, much of which wasn’t needed at that point in time.
When it was suggested that this was an example of HOARDING the reply was “this was NOT hoarding, we got there BEFORE the HOARDERS!”
You tell me what you think?
I think it’s a perfect example of hoarding, but this person was not going to be convinced.
No Awareness
The point is that until a person has awareness that their relationship with alcohol is a problem, there will be no acceptance.
Without acceptance there will be no lasting change.
A Wrong Fit
The logic of this line of thinking suggests that there is no point in a person subjecting themselves to courses aiming to help them to quit alcohol if they aren’t even aware they have a problem.
Why an Application and a Strategy Call is Needed
That is one reason we have an application process, to ensure we exclude this type of candidate student from wasting time and money and that they are a good fit for the course.
