Nothing worthwhile in life is easy
Once you know WHY you do what you do,
the question is HOW will you do it?
Simon Senek
Or
When you find your WHY
The HOW becomes easy.
Viktor Frankl
KEYSTONE
This is the keystone of any life change whether it be quitting drinking, smoking or any other bad habit.
If we want to change its essential if we know our WHY.
Viktor Frankl was incarcerated in Auschwitz and experienced horrific injuries, but survived because he knew his WHY.
He had a thesis that he wanted to put out into the world.
His manuscript was taken from him when he was transported to the concentration camp. He was determined to survive so that he could finish his thesis.
NEW HABITS
So, before you embark on this journey you need to be clear on exactly WHY you want to do it.
You will be creating new habits.
Habits make change possible by freeing us from decision making and from using self-control.
So, when the little voice in your head says “go on just one drink, it won’t hurt.”
YOU WANT THE SECRET and a PROCESS, ITS AN ADDICTION!
It’s a cunning baffling thing.
You need to have a very clear answer and put that in your mind.
This is the key to controlling your intake.
This is not the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but it is made a lot harder if you listen to the negative voice in your head.
So, get a grip and.
Get your WHY.
LITTLE MONSTER/BIG MONSTER
Allen Carr’s book deals with this so well.
There’s the little monster and the big monster.
LITTLE MONSTER
The little monster is the withdrawal process which only last a few hours and is easy to ignore. You do it without thinking every day when you drink and have your first drink at 5pm
BIG MONSTER
The big monster is the one in your head.
Not so easy to ignore.
That’s when you need your WHY, to combat those moments.
The more you do this, the less they will come
So once the little monster has gone your WHY will support you when the big monster raises his ugly head.
I used to get up and do something else, take a walk, have a drink of WATER, eat an apple or banana, anything to take my mind off it.
SECRET PROCESS
That actually is the SECRET. Dealing with that big monster of negative thought.
That takes GRIT, but not for long.
Just persevere long enough for those negative thoughts to stop and they will. That is the process.
ROCK BOTTOM
Don’t fall into the trap “but I haven’t hit rock bottom yet!”
Being uncomfortable with drinking is reason enough to want to create a change.
TRYING to QUIT
Don’t fall for this one either.
its like a smoker saying “I’m trying to quit smoking”
That’s just a half assed attempt.
I AM a NON-DRINKER is what you should be saying and thinking.
Next-Join the secret society of non-drinkers
That is what you are to become.
