What Do You Mean by Baby Steps?

Why Baby STEPS

Many people succeed best when they keep their starting steps as small and manageable as possible.

Taking the first step makes taking the 2nd and 3rd steps much easier because you’ve already started.

Small steps can be particularly helpful when trying to do something that seems overwhelming.

In this course I want to create something that people can follow and probably the best way forward is to acknowledge the achievement of not drinking for a whole day.

That is the quick win we all want.

I found it quite weird to do this and it is a milestone in its own right.

INSPIRATION-Worth its Weight in Gold

My inspirational guy said.(It helps to have one)

“When my head hits the pillow, I will have been sober all day, and tomorrow I’ll try to do the same thing”

And

“Don’t think too far in advance, keep it real simple and go day by day”

That’s real simple, but not easy.

Since I wrote that post last week the thoughts have been rolling around in my head.

Go Day BY Day

And I decided,

the 1st baby step should be to take one day sober.

Accept it, as an important step that it is.

Then do the same the next day.

I had been drinking every single day, without exception for decades, (probably to excess)

and to go one day sober was a landmark for me.!

I said to myself, “well I did it yesterday, why not do the same today?

And I did.

(I felt Very different, a bit weird actually, and a bit proud of myself too.)

So “don’t think too far in advance, keep it real simple and go day by day””.

Do what the guy said.

So try one day at a time, then when you are ready, go for 7 days, a week!.

Boy, Is that a milestone, phew?!!

No pressure.

GET THIS CRAP OUTTA YOUR LIFE

I reckoned it had taken me years to get to this point, so what if it takes me a few months to get this crap out of my life.

I couldn’t even think of 30 days let alone 100 days!.

But by taking very small manageable chunks of time I got there.

I know how hard it can be.

MONSTERS

You have to deal with the 2 monsters,

and the BIG MONSTER in your head is the harder of the two. That negative self-talk can be very wearing!

There are big life changes and disappointments to deal with.

ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP

This is when you need a good ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP who really understand what you are going through.

You can have all the tools and strategies to achieve your goal but you need a stella group of people who have travelled your journey to support you and give you that accountability.

OFF THE WAGON AGAIN-NOT THIS TIME

I have regressed (fallen off the wagon) so many times and recall how loathsome I felt.

Not a good feeling.

NEXT…. WHY YOU NEED SOME GRIT.
